Immersed Finite Element Methods for Three-Dimensional Interface Problems

Abstract: Interface problems widely appear in many engineering applications which in general involve multiple materials coupled through interface. Immersed finite methods are developed to solve interface problems on unfitted meshes that can avoid remeshing procedures when interface moves. In this talk, we will discuss the development and analysis of immersed finite element methods for three-dimensional interface problems. Compared with the 2D case, a special attention will be paid to the local geometry analysis that guarantees the optimal approximation capabilities of the constructed IFE spaces. Then both the stability and optimal a priori error estimates can be established.
